CANS FOR COFFEE! Two Fat Chefs - up until the 22nd of March 2026 - will swap a can of food for a coffee as part of a new initiative from fundraiser Top Up, run by Mal Bird. This initiative will see cans of food donated to Kapiti community organisations. For every can, another can will be donated by Star Fish Kapiti and PAK'nSAVE Kapiti. Catherine sits down with Mal in this interview to find out how this started. Two Fat Chefs are located on Marine Parade in Paraparaumu if you would like to swap your can of food for a coffee. Te Ara Whetu - Waikanae Library update - traffic arrangements( 0:10:49)

Te Ara Whetu - Waikanae Library project have advised that there will be temporary traffic management arrangements in place between the 2nd of February to approx 27th of February. Project Manager Mike Richardson dropped into the studio to talk about this next step in the project.
The traffic will be affected between 7.30am and 5pm on weekdays (excluding public holidays) and all weather dependent. This is to allow for the stormwater system and sprinkler system to be connected to the main networks which reside underneath carparks next to Mahara Gallery.
Approx 8 carparks will be closed while this work takes place and there will be traffic and pedestrian management in place to ensure everyone can get to where they need to go safely.

Health Minister Simeon Brown, Minister for Women Nicola Grigg, MP for Otaki Tim Costley, Dr Nick Chamberlain, the National Director National Public Health Service, and Coast Access Radio's Catherine Scullin were standing next to a brand new Mammography unit located on site in the now fixed Breast Screening facility in Waikanae. Free screening age has now been raised to age 74 due to research discovering that women are at high risk of Breast Cancer into their 70's.

The project aims to create awareness and an opportunity for families to talk about their soldiers and friends who have served.

Share the Love of Nature with Nga Manu( 0:11:30)

Recipients of the Share the Love of Nature with Nga Manu campaign invites the community the help deserving families experience the wonders of nature at Nga Manu.
The campaign encourages people to donate day passes, annual Friends of Ngā Manu memberships (or a monetary donation) for families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to visit the reserve. These donations allow families to enjoy a memorable day exploring native wildlife, feeding eels, meeting rare reptiles, and venturing into ancient lowland forest trails.
The recipients of the campaign are Kāpiti Women's Centre and Family Heart Services. The Kāpiti Women’s Centre offers crucial support through counselling, workshops, and programs that foster resilience and well-being and is a safe haven and empowering space for women in our community. Family Heart Services are dedicated to supporting families facing hardship and provides essential resources, advocacy, and emotional support to ensure no family feels alone.
