Beyond Barriers: I'm Capable But I Still Need Help( 0:15:45)
Episode Information
"If I can do it myself, why do I still need help"? That's the question so many disabled people are made to feel they have to answer. In this honest and powerful episode of Beyond Barriers with Jaime, Jaime challenges the idea that needing support somehow means you are less capable, less independent, or less deserving of respect. Being capable doesn't mean you never need help. Being independent doesn't mean doing everything alone. And asking for support doesn't erase everything you are capable of achieving. Jaime shares her personal experiences as a disabled person and a mum, talking about the everyday reality of knowing "I can do this" while also knowing "I need some help to do this". This episode is about breaking own assumptions, letting go of the guilt around asking for help, and recognising an important truth: You can be strong. You can be capable. You can be independent. And you can still need help. Because accessibility isn't about doing things for us - it's about making sure we have the support we need to do things for ourselves.
