Donald Jeffery, and his wife Marilyn set up and operated Te Horo Christmas Trees on their section. They grew trees in various sizes and priced them accordingly. As the festive season approached it was a joy to meet so many families who came to choose their special tree, and as a result they met some unusual characters, some of which are described in Donald’s story.

June Rout’s story is a memory about working in a 4 Square Corner Shop when she was a youngster. Our shopping experience all those years ago was so different to what we are accustomed to today. June shares her personal experience of working in the 4 Square Corner Shop and describes the nature of the goods that were available, the way that customer service was conducted in days gone by, and the characters who frequented the shop to get their provisions. This story provides insight into our social history.

It was Maureen’s daughter who encouraged her to attend the ‘Write Your Story series of community workshops and get her life story down on paper for the family. Maureen joined the group, and as result, she decided to focus on her memories. The approach she has taken to writing her story is to document in manageable chunks. Maureen has started with her earliest memories and her first chapter is aptly called, The First 7 years.
